Earlier today I caught a tweet from Omar (@surlybrewing) regarding their anniversary party for Three. Jason and I ventured over there to check it all out. We interviewed an old high school friend of Shawn’s on his thoughts about the brew. Overall, it was a great time!

For those wondering what style of beer “Three” is, here’s your answer. According to Surly, it’s a black braggot beer, which is brewed with 50% honey and 50% German dark Munich malt, fermented with a Belgian yeast strain, and aged on toasted White Ash.

The brew offers up a mild 16 IBU, but rings in at a whopping 10% ABV – strong for most casual beer drinkers; however, this alcohol content is rather common for a mead.

Be sure to check out the Blue Nile Ethiopian Restaurant & Lounge, in the Seward neighborhood of Minneapolis. There is a prodigious menu, and a wonderful complimentary beer list, which offers 2-for-1′s all week on many great beers, including Bell’s, New Belgium, Summit, among others.
