Olde Main Will Give You a Year of Beer
I know our readers have asked themselves at least two questions.
- What have I done today to help change the world?
- What beer will I be enjoying tonight?
I can help with one and a half of those questions, dear readers. Not too many days ago I was informed via Twitter of a little contest regarding the Iowa local, Olde Main Brewing Company. The challenge? Name Olde Main’s nameless stout and win a party and tour at their brewery, and of course, free beer for an entire year. Yes, you read that correctly – Olde Main is going to give a year of free beer to the person who best names the nameless stout.
Why’s the Stout nameless? When Olde Main opened in 2004, head brewer Jeff “Puff” Irvin had to quickly come up with a bunch of names for the beers he had created. For some reason, the stout stumped him, thus the name To Be Named Later Stout. While the name has stuck, it’s high time this brew had a proper name! What’s the Stout? Where is it available? Olde Main’s Stout is available on tap at bars and restaurants across Iowa and at the Ames’ restaurant and brewpub. Once it has as proper name, it will be launched in bottles later this year. Olde Main’s Stout is a hearty ale with color and flavors derived from roast, chocolate, and caramel malts. This ale has a complex taste with a rich creamy mouthfeel. The pronounced hop presence balances the deep malt flavors.
You must be creative, as of course, there is only one nameplace to be filled. Once you have chosen a name you find appropriate, head on over to NameTheStout.com for entry. The best part, I feel, is that each person is not limited to only one entry. The other side of it is that you have until March 31, 2009 to enter – that is almost two full months of creative thinking to get a few good names in for entry. Now, if you think it all sounds too good to be true, there is a slight catch: the winner must have an Iowa address for which the beer to be delivered. Whatever the case may be, I think you should all still give it a shot and enter a name into the contest.
