Beer Wars: A Movie We Should See
A few weeks ago, when hanging out with Shawn in St. Paul, we watched How Stuff Works on beer culture in the world. For me, a documentary on beer is a wonderful piece of media for me to get hooked into. There are so many aspects of beer and beer culture that I am unfamiliar with and these shows do a tremendous job in bringing forth the information. Over the past few weeks I have heard rumblings about an upcoming movie named Beer Wars. Given the research I have been doing for BGP, I had an inkling this movie would bring light to the stories of inspired craft brewers and their struggle against the macrobrewers for market share and mindshare.
I watched the trailer for Beer Wars and realized this movie is really a celebration for independent brewers in the states. With the recent events in the beer industry, regarding mergers and foreign ownership, it’s about time craft brewing started picking up steam in the public eye. We see the resurgence of independent brewers occurring on a daily basis and this movie makes me really excited to be a part of it.
So, now the movie. It’s a one night event, on April 16th. It will be shown live, then followed by an independent brewer panel led by Ben Stein. I’m curious if anyone has begun organizing any sort of an outing Iowa or Minnesota on that evening. Shawn and I are now planning on being in attendance, though we are not yet sure on which theater.
