Flat Earth November update

Hey gang! If you’ve not been down to Flat Earth Brewing Company lately, Jeff and the crew down there are scaling things up heading into holiday season. They’ll commence our sojourn into the winter season with growler sales this Saturday (yes! a weekend) from noon to 3 PM, at the brewery in Saint Paul.

Some of the festivities, detailed in the recent email from Jeff:

Porterfest begins this week with Xanadu – orange infused porter. They will be doing an infusion of Cygnus X-1 every week until the end of the year, bringing back some of your favorites from last year. They’ve also added four new infusions. These will be growler only.

They will be open on the 24th & 25th instead of the 26th for Thanksgiving. It will be a Charlie Brown Thanksgiving atmosphere at the brewery that week.

Be sure to visit Jeff and the Flat Earth team at The Cherokee Tavern in West St. Paul on November 9th for Meet Yer Maker night, featuring special pricing on Flat Earth beer.

There are 2 tours scheduled for this month, November 7th & the 21st at 4 pm. No reservations needed. Please bring a valid photo ID.

Visiting the August Schell Brewing Company

Over the past weekend, Shawn and I took a road trip over to Lucan, Minnesota to visit the Brau Brothers Brewing Company. We’ll talk about that experience in the show this week, but I wanted to post a short video we shot at the August Schell Brewing Company. You see, Schell’s is located in New Ulm, Minnesota and was pretty much on the way back home from BrauFest. At the end of the tour, Schell’s brings you into a tasting room to sample six of their beers. Immediately following the sampling, Shawn and I recorded this video.

Additionally, here are a few photos taken on the grounds of Brau Brothers Brewing Company, located in Lucan, Minnesota. They’re in their second year of growing their own hops vines and hope to become fairly reliant on them in the future.

Our first of (hopefully) many brewery tours this summer, Flat Earth Brewing Company was founded in February 2005 by Jeff Williamson and his wife Cathie. The brewery officially opened in 2007, and they have been working to show the Twin Cities great craft brews ever since. On June 28th, a group of us ventured over to the brewery, located nearly 1/2 mile due west of Summit Brewing Company, not far from the banks of the Mississippi River.

This video is of Jeff Williamson, co-founder and head brewer at Flat Earth Brewing Company. He explains a bit about the brewing process for the 8 beers they offer. Also, Jeff details distribution aspects of the company, talking about The Taste of Minnesota festival happening this week in Saint Paul. He takes questions from the tour group about the brewery’s origins, why he decided to brew, and more. I hope you enjoy this video, my first utilization of Vimeo to integrate my own video content into our blog.

I made some changes to the theme and layout of the site. (WIN for learning a bit of CSS and PHP without any classes). I have also created a blogroll, which we may want to utilize. But now, our journey escalates…

Tour #1) Flat Earth Brewing Company in Saint Paul is holding a tour on Saturday, 28 June at 4:00pm. I do not see any information regarding reservations, but I will call during my lunch break today to learn more (I will update the post). I have emailed for more information.

Tour #2) Minneapolis Town Hall Brewery has potential for a tour this upcoming Monday, June 30. More info to come in the update. I have emailed for more information.
